In 2010, Jinde began the Ricci Volunteer Program, which trains young volunteers for public service. This project sends college undergraduates and high school students to social service agencies to carry out volunteer services for a period of six months to two years. It provides an opportunity for young Catholic volunteers, guides young people to respond to the Church’s teaching about serving others, and to experience the value of life through service.

The first Ricci Volunteer cohort’s graduation ceremony was held for 17 youths from nine provinces in Shijiazhuang on June 19, 2011. They served in six provinces at 12 organizations, including orphanages and kindergartens.

The second cohort of Ricci Volunteers began with a ceremony that Jinde Charities organized in Shijiazhuang. Taking part in the 10-day training were young college undergraduates, and high-school students from Hebei, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Liaoning and Shandong provinces, as well as Beijing and Taiwan. Of the 22 participants, 18 served as volunteers in Yunnan, Guangxi, Hunan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Hebei and Beijing, and elsewhere.
